Hello! I'm GKFX. I'm a software engineer and a Natural Sciences graduate of the University of Cambridge, having focused on chemistry. Besides chemistry, I have an interest in software. I frequently contribute to Wikipedia templates, often working on documentation or on the mobile display of templates.

My username was created by random bashing on a keyboard, but since then it has become, in the words of Randal Munroe, my own "carefully-guarded point in the space of four-character strings."

Category:Miscellaneous chemical symbol templates[edit]

Hey, some of the templates at Category:Miscellaneous chemical symbol templates are used in 1-3 articles only which seems to mean that these aren't really needed. Should they be sent to TfD? Gonnym (talk) 08:20, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

@Gonnym: I think Template:Hydrate is valuable as the article it links to (Water of crystallization) isn’t an obvious search term for someone who sees and does not understand the notation “CuSO4 · 2H2O”. The rest are redundant to Template:Chem2 like the others previously deleted. User:GKFXtalk 14:18, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

DartsRankings Module[edit]

Hi there, I see you've taken an interest in the module. It has grown significantly from my original intention to where is is causing timeout issues. If you have suggestions for spending up, that would be great! Otherwise, I will work on a replacement for Template:PDCFlag that doesn't use the module. Cheers DLManiac (talk) 20:03, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

@DLManiac: I've replaced the call to Template:Flagg with a direct call to Module:Flagg. That seemed to help by one or two seconds. I think the slow bit is loading the country data templates: they really should be converted to Lua data modules at some point. Not sure I want to open that can of worms though! User:GKFXtalk 20:10, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
I hear that! Thanks so much for all the work! It had been a very daunting solo effort, not necessarily guaranteeing best practices! DLManiac (talk) 20:20, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

I'll pause re Chem2[edit]

Since we are working on the same template list, I will stop editing (to prevent econflicts). All fine. -DePiep (talk) 18:20, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Question about a new template[edit]

Hi, I'm thinking of creating a new template based on Template:SAT but with the emphasis on NCORP criteria. Just checking with you because I can see you're active with templates and maybe what I'm thinking of doing isn't the best approach. Any advice? HighKing++ 12:02, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
