Project Scope

The project generally considers any topic related to Greece, Greeks and their history, from ancient until modern times, to be within its purview. That includes:

• Geography
• History, including the prehistory of Greece, the history of ancient Greece including the Hellenistic world, the history of the Byzantine Empire and of medieval Greece in general, to the history of modern Greece
• Culture
• Languages, from Greek and its dialects to the minority languages of modern Greece
• Politics
• Greek people, including the Greek diaspora

etc., all regarded in their broadest senses.

Internal structure

• Departments, tasked with coordinating work on certain specialized tasks central to the project's function.
  • The Assessment Department provides guidelines on assessing article quality. The resulting article ratings are used within the project to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work, and are also expected to play a role in the WP:1.0 program. The assessments are done by any member of the group through parameters in the {{WikiProject Greece}} project banner.
  • The Outreach Department acts as the project's central point of coordination for recruiting new members and maintaining the interest of current participants. Its primary activity is the production of monthly project newsletters.

• Task forces, more informal groups for collaboration on specific topic areas. Currently, these are:
  • The Politics and politicians task force
  • The Athens task force
  • The Byzantine world task force

It may be awarded by any user, and project members are encouraged to use it to recognize the outstanding work of others. Alternatively, and for general contributions regarding Greek-related issues, the Greek Barnstar of National Merit or the The Greece Barnstar of National Merit may be awarded by using {{subst:Greek Barnstar of National Merit|message ~~~~}} and {{subst:The Greece Barnstar of National Merit|message ~~~~}} respectively.

Project banner

The {{WikiProject Greece}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner.
