Wikipedia:Requests for history merge

Jump to navigation Jump to search

This page is used for listing requests for history merges or history splitting of pages. For relatively simple cases where history merge is required, the destination page should be tagged with the {{histmerge}} template. This page should be used for requesting very complex merges, merges involving more than two pages, history merges of deleted pages, or when the use of the template is otherwise inadequate or where its usage would cause problems.

This page was originally for listing cut-and-paste moves which could not be repaired due to a then-extant technical limitation. The limitation has since been removed, but this page is still available if you find a cut-and-paste move, and are not able to repair it yourself (there is a procedure for doing it, but only administrators can do it, and it is a bit tricky!).

Administrators need to read Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Fixing cut-and-paste moves and Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions.

The procedure[edit]

  • Place a {{histmerge|NAME OF PAGE THE ARTICLE WAS CUT FROM}} template at the new location of the article which has been moved through cut and pasting, i.e. on the article where the pasting was done.
  • If the issue is clear-cut (straight up cut-and-paste move to a better title), having the template on the page should be enough. In more complex cases (explained at Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves), please leave a description of the problem under the "Repair requests" section.
  • An administrator will look over the pages and perform whatever tasks are necessary.
  • Once this is done, the admin may post the result here.

Queried requests[edit]

    3. Trolls World Tour
    • Page 1 has 2 parts:
      Edits at about 4900 bytes from 20:33, 22 July 2018 to 19:02, 14 March 2019‎
      Edits at about 9300 edits from 23:18, 19 June 2019 to 04:32, 20 June 2019‎
    • Part 2 started as a copy of #1 at 13:13, 7 March 2019, runs to 23:15, 9 March 2019, all 7 edits by User:TheGreenTower (banned for sockpuppeting), deleted at 18:39, 14 March 2019, 7 edits
    • Part 3 has 3 parts:
      16:29, 1 April 2017 to 04:22, 13 June 2018, length steadily increasing from 1747 to 3368 bytes
      11:43, 13 June 2018 to 17:55, 10 March 2019: redirects, often carrying Category: lines
      23:24, 19 June 2019 to 06:54, 20 June 2019, length about 9200 bytes
    • Pages 1 and 3 are very WP:Parallel histories and cannot be history-merged completely. There seems to have been various copyings between these 3 pages.
    • How well known is Trolls (film), or the Trolls dolls, anyway? This is the first that I have heard of this Trolls scenario. (I am in England.) Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:59, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
