"need to"... if you want to prevent the account being recreated, and you fear the loss of the redirects from your former user & user talk pages, then yes. With over 10,000 talk page edits, and the corresponding number of signatures, it may be advisable. I have done so on my previous accounts. When I tried to create the doppelganger, it didn't let me, saying the name I was trying to use (my old name) is too similar to GloryRoad66. So, I guess that is a good thing. I'm guessing that the similarity between my old name and new name will prevent people from trying to create a new account with the old name. Thanks. User rename of Bmwmoa to T2moyer[edit]

Hi dxneo, I've seen a few ways of handling it ; creating a placeholder user page ; creating a redirect user page ; creating a doppelganger user account ; or just leaving it be. I've created doppelgangers with placeholders on my previous accounts, User:Bazj [ca] & User:For (;;) [ca]. Having a doppelganger account prevents anybody from squatting on your previous username and also helps safeguard your placeholders & redirects being deleted as {{db-u2}}.
